How I Went from Spinning Tracks to Saying Vows: The Day I Became a DJ-Officiant

Let me set the scene for you: It’s a blazing hot summer afternoon in Georgia. The kind of day where the sun doesn’t just shine—it attacks. Everyone’s seated outside, fanning themselves with programs that are quickly doubling as sweat rags. The bridesmaids are lined up, looking elegant but clearly wondering why their waterproof mascara is being put to the ultimate test. The groomsmen are adjusting their ties and trying not to pass out. The flower girl just asked if she could go home. The ring bearer dropped the rings twice. We’re moments away from the bride’s big entrance…

And the officiant? Nowhere to be found.

Ghosted.

Gone like last season's playlist.

I’m DJ New Me. At that moment, I was there to bring the party—not host the ceremony. But with no officiant in sight and no answer on his phone, someone had to step up. Everyone turned and looked at me—probably because I had a microphone.

So, I did what any responsible, slightly panicked wedding vendor with 300+ weddings under their belt would do: I became the emergency officiant. That’s right, your favorite DJ-turned-day-saver stepped up, turned off the music, grabbed the mic, and led the most heartfelt, slightly improvised, and totally unofficial wedding ceremony you’ve ever seen.

Was it legal? No.

Was it beautiful? Absolutely.

Did Grandma cry? You bet she did.

After the couple kissed and walked down the aisle (still legally single, mind you), I realized something important: I never wanted to see a couple go through that again. Your wedding day should be unforgettable for all the right reasons—not because the officiant went MIA and your DJ had to become your Plan B.

So I did something about it.

I got certified to legally officiate weddings in Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Now, when you hire me as your DJ, you’re not just getting great music and good vibes—you’re also getting officiant insurance. If your official officiant can’t make it for any reason—car trouble, illness, sudden alien abduction—you’re covered. I can step in and legally tie the knot. No stress. No scrambling. Just smooth transitions from “I do” to “let’s dance.”

Better yet? If you want me to be your officiant and DJ, I can do that too. From walking you down the aisle with the perfect song to pronouncing you married, then dropping the beat at your reception—I've got you from start to finish.

So yes, I became an officiant because one sunny day, I had no choice. But now? I’m choosing to make sure your wedding day runs as perfectly as your favorite playlist.

DJ New Me: your DJ, your officiant, your wedding day hero.
